- Responsible Investment
We recognise that the management of environmental and social responsibilities is subject to many factors, and take into account the particular circumstances, industries and locations in which the companies operate.
We've produced guidelines on responsible investment to explain how we evaluate the environmental and social policies of the companies in which we are (or might be) an investor.
Our experience in operating across many different investment cycles and markets provides us with the context to manage change. Throughout these cycles, we have the people, philosophy and proficiency of process to plot what we believe is the right course for our clients’ assets.

Our commitment to North American institutional investors
At Standard Life Investments, we work with a variety of North American institutional investors to help meet their financial goals. This includes corporate and public pension plans, endowments and foundations, Taft-Hartley plans, insurers and other large financial organizations. With each client, we seek to build lasting relationships by gaining a deep understanding of their specific requirements. We then aim to deliver world-class products, performance and service.
We can offer quality products and service to North American investors because of the extensive experience we have built up over a number of years. Our parent company, Standard Life plc, was established in 1825. We have therefore spent many years creating investment solutions on behalf of one of the UK's largest insurers. For example, we developed a custom multi-asset strategy for the Standard Life pension plan. It has proven highly successful in outperforming its liabilities with low levels of risk during an extremely turbulent period for financial markets.
Standard Life Investments became a separate company in 1998. Since then, we have quickly established a large third-party business and now manage total assets worth $343.5 billion*. In July 2014, we acquired Ignis Asset Management, a top-15 UK investment manager. Ignis has a longstanding history of providing structured products for insurance companies and their acquisition complements our strong organic growth.
