David Paine

David Paine

Head of Real Estate Investments

David joined Standard Life in 1982 and has been with Standard Life Investments since its inception. He is extensively experienced in all aspects of real estate investment management and development of real estate assets. David has been responsible for portfolio establishment, development management, portfolio management and business development into new markets. He heads our real estate team which comprises over 120 investment and real estate specialists based in Edinburgh, Paris, Boston and Hong Kong.

Mike Hannigan

Head of International Real Estate and UK Group Funds

Mike joined the real estate industry in 1987 and has wide experience across all areas of investment, asset management and development. He joined Standard Life 1991 and has been with Standard Life Investments since it was formed in 1998. Mike is currently responsible for managing and developing our business in Asia Pacific as well as the UK Group Funds and Real Estate Alternatives.

Neil Odom-Haslett

Neil Odom-Haslett

Head of Commercial Real Estate Debt

Neil joined Standard Life Investments in 2013 and set up a Commercial Real Estate Lending platform, currently focusing in the UK market.

Based in our London office, Neil is responsible for the team that offers structured real estate finance that is tailored to clients’ strategies focusing on income producing properties across most of the real estate asset classes. Typical clients are from listed companies, global property funds, private companies, Sovereign Wealth Funds and high net worth individuals.

He is also a Vice President of the Association of Property Lenders.

Mark Watt

Mark Watt

Head of UK Wholesale & Real Estate Trusts

Mark has been a member of Standard life Investments’ senior Real Estate Management Team since September 2000 and is currently responsible for the teams managing c. £6.75 billion (as at June 2017) of direct real estate assets across our core wholesale real estate funds, listed property income trusts, and three specialist institutional retail park and shopping centre trusts.

Mark has over 28 years direct UK property investment, asset management and development experience across all commercial sectors of the market having held a number of roles within the Standard Life Investments’ Real Estate Team, including seven years in Development Management, six years as Fund Manager of the Standard Life Unit Linked Life Fund and six years heading up the teams responsible for managing Standard life Investment’s core third party real estate fund suite.

Mark has a degree in Land Economy and is a professionally qualified Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Daniel McHugh

Head of Continental European Real Estate

Daniel joined the real estate industry in 1994 and is widely experienced in European and UK real estate investment and development. He joined Standard Life Investments in 2000 and has worked in investment, development, asset management and portfolio management. Daniel is currently responsible for all our Continental European business and is based in our Paris office.

Anne Breen

Anne Breen

Head of Real Estate Research & Strategy

Anne manages the output of one of Europe’s leading Property Research teams at Standard Life Investments. The team’s activities include forecasting UK, European, Asian and North American property markets. Her team also provides strategic input for all of the 19 funds under management including investment in listed and co-mingled property vehicles as well as the tactical use of global property derivatives.

Paolo Alonzi

Paolo Alonzi

Head of Real Estate Finance & Operations

Paolo is a qualified Chartered Accountant and manages a multi-disciplined team within the real estate business covering financial management, tax, product financing, deal and fund structuring and support, sustainable real estate investment, insurance, procurement and supplier management, and health & safety risk management. Since joining Standard Life Investments in 2003, Paolo and his team have played a key role in deal and fund structuring, as well as providing finance and operational support to the real estate business. More recently Paolo led the development of Standard Life Investments commercial real estate lending platform.

Richard Marshall

Head of Secure Real Estate and Segregated Funds

Richard joined the company in 1997 and has wide experience across all areas of Fund management including investment and asset management. Richard is currently responsible for our Secure Real Estate franchise which specialises in managing strategies focused around security of cashflow, delivering returns with less risk and volatility compared to traditional real estate mandates. These include our Long Lease and Commercial Ground Rent Funds. In addition, Richard overseas our segregated client mandates.
